The Kolbra is designed as a two-seat tandem
aircraft. It is easy to build and is built as an N numbered
experimental aircraft. With its gross weight of 1000 lbs. and
slow stall speed, it qualifies as an experimental kit build
light sport aircraft... Perfect for Sport Pilot. The Kolbra was
built with the training market in mind. There is a need for a stoutly
built, dual control, tandem aircraft... one that puts the
student in the nose of the aircraft by themselves. This gives
them the same feeling they will have when they solo. The
Kolbra's 6" wing spars and 6" fuselage tube
are built to take the kind of abuse a trainer might be expected
to see. The landing gear legs are chrome-molly steel for high strength.
Built to weigh to less than 496 pounds with the Rotax 582,
the Kolbra falls under FAR part 103 for training. Build the
Kolbra with the Rotax 912 or 912S engine and you have a sport
plane for the new millennium. With it's rugged steel gear, short take-offs and landings are not a problem.
The cockpit is
fully enclosed, but rear windows may be built to open in
flight.

HIGH PERFORMANCE
The Kolbra retains the Kolb STOL flight characteristics by
using the tried-and-true wing designed on the Mark III series.
It has good performance with a 65 hp, Rotax 582. An optional
engine is the Rotax 912.

STURDY CONSTRUCTION
For
strength and durability in airframe structures, aluminum and
steel are superior. The heart of the Kolbra, the
fuselage cage, is made from strong, factory welded 4130
chrome-moly steel. We also use 4130 steel in all high stress
areas. Kolbra wings have rigid truss ribs and a
massive 6" aircraft aluminum wing spar. Covered
with Stits aircraft covering, there is no comparison!
SUPERB HANDLING
The Kolbra like all Kolb aircraft, utilizes traditional
cable and push-pull tube control systems. They both feel solid
even in turbulent air. The extra stiffness of the wings and
tail, plus the higher wing loading (added weight of the
structure) make a very solid feeling airplane. The half-span
ailerons have good roll authority at higher speeds while still
being powerful enough at lower speeds to retain roll control
even through a stall. Optional hydraulic brakes provide for
sure stops and a tighter turning radius to allow for excellent
ground handling in smaller areas.
Although Kolb aircraft are easy to fly and have gentle flight
characteristics, they are also high performance aircraft. We recommend training or some
transition training before attempting flight in our aircraft.
ROOMY CABIN
The Kolbra has a spacious cabin with tandem seating.
Both rear lexan windows can be built to fully open for
rear seat comfort. The rear engine eliminates exhaust
fumes and reduces noise levels.

GREAT VISIBILITY
The fact is, better visibility makes for more enjoyable
flying. The pusher configuration of the Kolbra provides
the vastly superior visibility that Kolb aircraft have become
known for. The visibility from the cabin is unexcelled
for a trainer aircraft, and the enclosed canopy and wing gap
seal is clear lexan so you can see straight up.

FOLDING WINGS & TAIL
Like all Kolb aircraft, the Kolbra has folding wings and
tail which allow for easy storage or trailering. The
tail folds up and the wings fold back along the fuselage in
about 15 minutes by one person. Everything stores right
on the airframe.
Many of our customers fold and unfold their
airplanes routinely every time they fly -- year after year. This allows for money
saving compact storage at the airport or at home.
